I must try this 2 against 1 in defences for my Colonial 1885 Campaign...Yes, Your right- a fresh 3rd Union Regt would be waiting to take the position after the first two Regts become spent. Regards. My Napoleonic and 18th Century sets have two range bands, short and long. Unfortunately, it has been quite a while since I properly looked at my ACW rules, and, in view of my limited table space, they may have to undergo a considerable adjustment to 'fit'.

I'll do another posting, after the 'Napoleonic' one (which is pretty detailed) which will discuss the same idea in ACW terms.
Cheers,
IonArchduke Piccolohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15533325665451889661noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6650770985225450559.post-82445122959028175382014-03-14T06:58:01.354-07:002014-03-14T06:58:01.354-07:00I like your idea of using a standard candle to tes...I like your idea of using a standard candle to test the play of your rules. I am coming from a science/math background, and would like to make probability distributions for various choices of dice/man and dice outcomes. I understand (I think) your "hit" rules. I don't understand your "movement" rules. If you are interested in me pursuing this, could you clarify those rules? You seem to have long range/middle range/long range for shooting. How far can the attacker move in one round (are they stuck two turns in long range, then two in middle, etc.)? Also, I assume it matters if the attacker charges (move 2 steps?) versus move and fire (move 1 step)? They are very similar, but mot quite the same as, those used by Charles grant in his 18th century War Game. I'll do another posting that goes into more detail of the game mechanics. Just for variety, I'll probably do a Napoleonic one, which is a little different in detail, but the procedure is precisely the same.

Cheers,
IonArchduke Piccolohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15533325665451889661noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6650770985225450559.post-32495469424463576242014-03-07T19:15:14.286-08:002014-03-07T19:15:14.286-08:00Any chance you could work through an example of an...Any chance you could work through an example of an exchange, how the tne modifiers are applied and how the results are adjudicated into casualties?

I have read through this a couple of times and I'm not getting some bits. I don't use Featherstone's mechanisms but I am familiar with 2 versions of them. I don't know anything about Wiizards Quest.

I'm curious about your reference to reducing the range of die results as that's whst his system appears to do, for example, if a volley has a -2 modifier, the possible range changes from '1 to 6 ' to from '0 to 4'. Are your modifiers perhaps applied to the total which would have the effect of transfering unused penalties from 1 die to another?

I'm also wondering about the adjudication of casualties. With Featherstone's saves, more hits does not guarantee more casualties but it does make it more likely. You seem to suggest something different.

Just my usual curiosity about the nuts and bolts of mechanisms.

Good post

RossRoss Mac rmacfa@gmail.comhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04053555991679802013noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6650770985225450559.post-6985537310626877652014-02-28T13:14:15.804-08:002014-02-28T13:14:15.804-08:00Jacko: I'm looking forward to it!
