Tomorrow I shall, for the first time ever, be participating in a HoTT tournament. I'm hoping my long past experience of DBM will keep me reasonably competitive. Not that I'm expecting much in the way of battlefield success, but to be there just to see the imagination that goes in to the HoTT armies of the other contestants.
7YW Russian HoTT Army ... or is the M'yasmic Expeditionary Force about to embark upon an exploratory mission? |
Army Left Wing: Shooters, Artillery, Riders and Lurkers. |
Here it is: a plain old ordinary, down to earth, unpretentious (yeah, right) 7YW Russian Army, or perhaps it is an expeditionary force from the Grand Duchy of M'yasma, making ready to march eastwards into mysterious, magical realms, there to encounter dragons, sorcerors, heros, yea, even gods, and, possibly too, dark denizens of deep and desert.
Army Right Wing: Artillery, Shooters and Spears; Lurkers and Knights |
The Army comprises:
2 x Cuirassier stands (Knights. One is the GoC stand) @ 2AP = 4AP
2 x Hussar stands (Riders) @ 2AP = 4AP
2 x Grenadier stands (Spears) @ 2AP = 4AP
4 x Musketeer stands (Shooters) @ 2AP = 8AP
1 x Artillery stand (Artillery) @ 3AP = 3AP
1 x Jager stand (Lurker) @ 1AP = 1AP
12 stands Grand Totals =24AP
Looking along the line... The lawn could use a mow... |
Ion,
ReplyDeleteTo pair with the 3 point artillery, you could add some Clerics ( M'yasman Orthadox preists with appropriate Icon ). Very useful for human armies to counter those mythical/magical heretics.
For that period a hero ( ie:Tristram Shandy or Barry Lyndon ) gives you a bit of punch.
Cheers,
Stan.
Had it been a Prussian Army, or even a British, I might have gone in for a 'hero' figure of some sort. Dear old Aleks Suvorov seems just a bit on the late side... A cleric for a (vaguely) Russian army simply didn't occur to me (not that I have a cleric figure anyhow!) . But I do like the notion!
DeleteI have another couple of those Roco Minitanks vehicles for you tomorrow too..
DeleteHe! He!
I love your 'world creation' stuff.

Ion
ReplyDeleteLooks great.. look forward to seeing it 'in the flesh'.

Thanks Robin,
DeleteI'll be honest, and tell you I picked it up ready painted second hand from a bring-n-buy several years ago. Except for the jagers and the flocking of the bases, oh, and the flags and flag staffs, what you see is 'as bought'. A very nice paint job I thought, though not quite 'finished' as the photos tell me.
But the original owner's attempt at the flags was not a success (much too difficult a design to render by hand in my view). Having researched the 7YW Russian flag design, I found appropriate images and worked out a method of 'mirror imaging' the design. Printed out the result.
The flag staffs are spares from my Wargames Factory War of the Spanish Succession figures.
Cheers,
Ion
Good luck for tomorrow Ion. Your troops look good!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Paul.
DeleteI can take only a small portion of the credit - they're part of a ready painted army I bought 2nd hand a few years ago (see my reply to Robin Sutton).
Cheers,
Ion
Also meant to say that you troops may just bring a touch of class to what might otherwise be seen as an unseemly brawl between Gods, Dragons and other uncivilized elements (apart from my VSF troops.. being representatives of Her majesty, of course!!)
ReplyDeleteR :-)
I also have a Roman Army originally designed for DBA. A deity might be appropriate there. Does anyone do a Mithras figure...?
ReplyDeleteI look forward to hearing your army's adventures where no syw army has gone before (probably) with pictures?
ReplyDeleteHave a super time!
Alan
It is pretty much unknown territory for me... The camera is packed! :-)
DeleteLooks great Ion. Also check out Wargames factory sale (For the WSS figures) as some are 40% off. Ill try and pop down tomorrow and tell you (or ring)
ReplyDeleteCheers
Wow! Sounds just the ticket! I hope WSS Horse is one of them. I want 7 packs...
DeleteWhat? No hot-air balloon? . . . I've never come across a HotT tourney but I'd love to do so. Please try to take some photos of the more interesting armies to share with us.
ReplyDeleteBut most importantly, sir, I do hope that you have a lot of fun!
-- Jeff
Thanks Jeff - so do I. I'm hoping that the other guys live up to the promise of previous years' armies. There have been armies of spiders, air boats, dinosaurs, Viet Nam war Americans... Should be something to see all right!
DeleteI don't know sounds like a pretty outlandish lot to me, all those firesticks and so on!
ReplyDeleteAt least you didn't go in for Russian infantry as hordes!
Enjoy!
Damn!! I wish I'd thought of that! I do believe hordes come at 1AP the time, and the Russians do say that quantity has a quality all of its own...
DeleteWell met on the field of glory today Ion! As requested, here's my HOTT and random stuff blog:

Hi Mark -
DeleteYep - I enjoyed today. Thanks for the links - though in fact I found them fairly quickly after I got home. They now appear on my dashboard reading list...
Cheers,
Ion
Nice looking troops, hope the tournament has been good for you!
ReplyDeleteIt has. Thank you!
