This here is a follow-on from a(n occasional) series I began way back in 2010. This strip was what I had in mind by way of a continuation, but it has taken this long to get the motivation for doing the actual drawing. As it is, it has taken the best part of a week prodding at t to get it done.
To begin with, I suggest following the link to AoU ##8-10 for context... Or, you could follow the label.
And now...

Very professional looking drawing and now I am waiting for the next episode.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the flattering remark! I'm certainly no professional!
DeleteExcellent! I hope you continue this series.
ReplyDeleteI do have a couple more ideas in train...
DeleteYou are obviously a talented artist. Roland the sentry puts one in mind of the geese the Romans used as night watchmen...
ReplyDeleteWell... let's see what the sequel holds...
DeleteLooking forward to more.
ReplyDeleteMore will come...
DeleteGradually...
Great work! I love the Colonel's Teddy Bear
ReplyDeleteI thought it would add a quirky touch... :-D
DeleteExcellent! I also enjoyed the quirky cartoons and comic strips about toy soldiers and gaming that turned up in 1980s Military Modeller and wargames magazines.
ReplyDeleteHow did you fit the lettering into the speech bubbles / available space so neatly?

This adds to my comic book / cartoon stormy weekend

Woo - quite an exciting weekend ... sort of. I enjoyed following your links back to your discussion of the Tintin graphic novels. I used to follow someone's blog that featured the Syldavia-Borduria conflicts as his imagi-Nations thing, but haven't seen any action from that direction in years.
DeleteI did start a conflict situation in sub-equatorial South America, with 3 warring nations: Oronegro (a vaguely Fascist elective dictatorship), the Pan-Andean People's Republic and Gran Bolivaria, formerly known as the Uxazilian Kingdom. Unfortunately, that has never quite resolved itself into an actual war - hiatus valde deflendus...
I have a few more ideas for AoU, though what will come after that, I really don't know.
Cheers,
Archduke Piccolo.
Lovely artwork Ion and a very clever idea too. More please.
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Geoff
I'll try Geoff. I didn't expect the responses I've got so far! I guess one should at least try to make good on them!
DeleteHurrah! AoU is back.
ReplyDeleteNow all it needs to do is to come up with ideas...
DeleteExcellent !!! 😊.
ReplyDeleteRemembering back to your illustration of the Byzantine general killing himself by charging onto a tree, the thought passed my mind that cartoons like that would go down really well in the Slingshot (Society of Ancients) magazine. Ever thought of submitting some? (And are you a member?).
I gather that Richard Nelson's for the Hyboria Campaign were popular, along, to Mr Bath tells us, his lampooning and verse. Well, I've done a little bit of that in my time, too...
DeleteNo, I've never been a member of the Society of Ancients. Partly I guess because that period of war gaming has been something of a sideline. On the other hand, I do have a fondness for the history of that part of the world...
My cartoons have very occasionally been published - very occasionally 'commissioned', that is to say requested....
You have a great talent..well done. Regards
ReplyDeleteThanks, Tony. I quite enjoyed doing those character sketches for the Woodscrew Campaign, and was fairly pleased at how they came out. In a way, that got me started again doing this sort of thing.
DeleteExcellent work and you do have a talent for this sort of stuff.
ReplyDeleteI wish I had more talent in coming up with ideas!
DeleteNice work! Clever title.
ReplyDeleteAh, yes: the title. I liked it, but I really ought to have found out whether it had been used before. Kinda stuck with it now...
DeleteThanks for your comment!
Really nice job. My fave bit is ‘His Excellency’ discarding his teddy over his shoulder - very funny :-)
ReplyDeleteI like to add little incidentals... :-)
