The Turcowaz is substantially the larger army, but will have a column of Ruberian troops to contend with at quite the other end of the Settee Empire. That could present a problem...

DeleteI just WISH I could get hold of even just one box of Strelets-R Turkish regular cavalry of the 1877 war. That would round off the Turcowaz army. I might be forced to look for a substitute

It is so frustrating trying to track down elusive boxes of plastic figures. For my 20mm Ancient Persian project I ended up with one 'box' of figures from a reseller which was just a dusty plastic bag with the figures all cut off their sprue and jumbled together. But at least I got them!

DeleteThe upside of the jumble of figures is that it is quite fun sorting through them to see what you've got, and how they might be organised. Somehow more ... satisfying than cutting them from a sprue.
I've often wondered why Achaemenid Persian armies are so popular.

DeleteNot sure when the thing will kick off. It will begin 'in medias res', which is my usual campaign style. So it looks at the moment like an escalation of events in the Kavkaz region, a revenge operation by the Ruberians in Medifluvia, and some hostilities developing between Ruberia and Azuria.
So, at least, the observing journalists, political analysts and correspondents are suggesting...

Lovely figures Ion. The bashi-bazouks look particularly impressive (although I believe these warriors tended to look fancy whilst their fighting qualities left much to be desired).
ReplyDeleteSubstitute figures for the 1/72 Turkish regular cavalry? Would the Strelets Mamelukes work? Maybe they are a tad too irregular (possibly might work as Circassian irregulars?). The difficulty seems to be that the Turkish regular cavalry wear a quite distinctive bolero style jacket ☹️ Otherwise, maybe try a mix of Cossacks with headgear conversions.

DeleteThe Turkish cavalry I have is more than a little anachronistic dating from the 17th or 18th Century, I think. But they're fine as irregulars. I'm now thinking of getting a set of HaT WW1 Turkish Cavalry as regulars. That will give me a unit or formation of 4 stands of three, and I might be able to do something with the extra riders. These guys don't look anything like the 1877 chappies, but the anachronism amounts to less than 40 years...
