Kavkaz Campaign - Armies Reorganise

Izumrud-Zeleniyan Infantry in attack

Owing to the cumulative costs of campaigning and combat, all the armies in the Abasgian Valley had to look to their depleted units and formations. A major reorganisation was indicated: units converged and commands reassigned. The shattered Turcowaz Trebizond Command in particular was in bad shape - bad enough that its commander, Bashir Ed Din Pasha, called upon Ionople for a reinforcement.

Something of a lull descended upon operations.

Kavkaz Campaign
Developments 23-25 June, 1875

2 - The Izumrud-Zeleniyan Army again divides into two, one half under General-Major Kutizedoff remaining for the moment in Zugdidi, the other - Kavkaz Column under Count Ignatieff - marching eastward again to try conclusions with Abdul Abulbul Ameer. Future Spade draws will apply to this column.

J - Turcowaz Trebizond Command (beginning just south of Zugdidi to which it had retreated after the late battle) retires 2 hexes towards Poti, to stand at the highway's Kutaisi turnoff.

A - Turcowaz Kars Command retires into Kutaisi Town
      - Turcowaz Trebizond Command retires across the Rioni River into Poti
      - Turcowaz troop carrier sails westward (off the map)

Campaign card draw ends.

Turcowaz regulars.

To be continued: the Armies reconstituted.

  1. Archduke Piccolo,

I am really enjoying this series of blog posts. Reading them is like reading chapters in a history book about a war I’ve never heard or read about before … and I keep wanting to know what happens next!

    All the best,

    Bob

    1. I'm always glad to receive your encouragement, Bob. Helps keep me going. I have to admit, this campaign, like some others I can think of, has taken on a life of its own...
      Cheers,

  2. Following recent battles both armies have seized the opportunity to “take a breather”, reorganise and regroup. A wise move.
I guess any Turcowaz reinforcements wouldn’t have very far to travel - so could arrive fairly quickly, whereas any reinforcements for their opponents would presumably take quite some time to arrive in theatre.
Ion - your artwork is lovely. 👏👏
Perhaps you could create a mock “report” from a newspaper war correspondent following one of the armies. Their readers back home would doubtless be interested to hear what Johnny Foreigner was up to in far off lands.
    Cheers,
    Geoff

    1. Geoff -
I have an idea that a certain traveller, raconteur and bon viveur, name of Aloysius T. Towragge-ffforbes was recently heard from travelling somewhere east of the Amicable Sea. Mayhap he has sent something of interest to the Ruberian Illustrated Chronicle. We'll see...

They're fun to do from time to time - but they are mere doodles. Doodling is never a chore...
      All the best,

    1. So am I! I seem to find it hard to 'get around' to this blog for the moment. Real life is getting pretty out of hand, I think!
